The history of Guayaquil is very rich and extensive; However, due to fires, looting and natural disasters, there are not many records that date from that time. It is believed that the process of the Spanish conquest lasted from 1534 to 1547.
According to several historians, Guayaquil was initially founded in the Sierra, more precisely in Riobamba, on August 15, 1534 by Diego de Almagro and Sebastián de Benalcazar. Then, for the convenience of the conquistadors, he moved to the Ecuadorian coast, where he had several problems with the natives of the area to recover.
Its definitive foundation would be given on July 25, 1538 by Francisco de Orellana, who moved the city to where it is now.
Since 1929, the Municipality of Guayaquil officially proclaimed July 25 as the date on which the foundation of the city should be celebrated.
Guayaquil managed to establish itself after 12 years of countless inconveniences such as transfers, armed conflicts, fires in diseases and invasions. All this, plus the constant work of its inhabitants, has made it an important and developed city of Ecuador. Its history, its people and its architecture make up a city that has known how to face problems and that every day works to overcome them.
